Rocky Mountain Showdown crack down
DENVER - As local college football fans kept a close eye on the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown between CSU and CU, Denver Police were on the watch for under-age drinkers.

Police put out a warning this week, asking game-goers to be on their best behavior. While most heeded the directive, police say 91 fans were arrested.

Eleven of the arrests involved tickets, additionally 44 people were taken to detox, 21 were ejected from the game, one was busted for DUI and one habitual traffic offender was also picked up and kept off the streets.

"We just wanted to make sure that fans of all kinds could enjoy the game without being bothered by people drinking too much," said Chief Gerry Whitman. "Sometimes people use liquor to try to stay hydrated; we just wanted them to know water is a much better choice."

Law enforcement kept a promise to those caught in the "Heat Is On" net, they reported those arrested to their respective schools for further disciplinary action.

All-in-all it was a long, day for fans, many of whom continued the party either in Lodo or on The Hill in Boulder. In Ft. Collins, not so much, as now the Rams have lost their 9th game in a row, and their quarterback is a freshman, can you say long season ahead?

As for the Buffs, they get a big win for their coach who has been under fire for failing to get wins and losing to both Nebraska and CSU last season.

As for the fans, Go Rams/Buffs was the watchword for the day.
